Ready to Revolut your travel plans? From seamless currency exchange to overseas transfers, your trips are about to get better.

Join 35+ million customers globally who already use Revolut, hold up to 36 currencies in-app, and spend in 150+ currencies. Plus, you can manage your money your way, with spending insights and budgeting tools.

Imagine being able to go wherever you want. Whether you'll be studying abroad, getting some sun in Hawaii, or enjoying Korean BBQ in Seoul, use these tips to make the most of it.

1. Exchange your Yen

Exchange your JPY for one of 35+ currencies directly in-app — and at excellent rates. Then pay in your destination's local currency when you arrive to avoid additional merchant charges.

Is the local currency not available yet? No worries! You can spend in 150+ currencies at fees so low you might not even notice them.

Typically, airports and local exchange offices include both foreign exchange fees and foreign currency handling fees in their rates, resulting in higher exchange rates.

With Revolut, you get better exchange rates than at airports or local exchange places. Whether it's US dollars, Euros, South Korean won, Thai baht, Singapore dollars, Australian dollars, or New Zealand dollars, Revolut has you covered.

Unlike airports and local exchanges that include extra fees, we keep it simple, so you save more when you exchange currencies for your trip. Avoid the hassle of getting charged twice — you can see all the fees in-app. What you see is what you’ll get, no fine print, no extra fees.¹

Which currency should I use for payment overseas?

Whether you've pre-exchanged to the local currency of your destination or not, always make payments in the local currency to avoid currency conversion fees at the store.

While exchanging currency, make sure you know…

Outside of currency exchange market hours (from Friday 5:00pm to Sunday 6:00pm New York time), a foreign exchange fee of 1% to 1.5% will be applied.

2. Get your Revolut card

Whether you’d like the real deal in your wallet, or prefer to go digital, we’ve got you covered. Choose from physical cards (plastic or metal) or virtual cards. If you lose your Revolut card on the trip, you can freeze it immediately in-app, and unfreeze it again if you need to.

Safety first

Advanced fraud protection, rigorous security features, and 24/7 in-app customer support — your safety is our priority. You can control online transactions, ATM withdrawals, and contactless payments, plus enable or disable magnetic stripe payments and the GPS feature. Additionally, you can set individual spending limits for each card.

End the overspend

Ready to check your balance without fear? It’s time to create a budget that actually works. Revolut cards allow you to set limits and notifications, so you don’t accidentally overspend.

3. Spend on-the-go, wherever you are

Withdraw cash at any ATM, anywhere — with no fees.²

  • Standard: JPY 25,000/month
  • Premium: JPY 50,000/month
  • Metal: JPY 100,000/month

Please note that depending on the country, location, and time, the ATM itself may charge a fee, even if it is within the free amount on each plan. Be sure to check the information displayed on the ATM screen, and always remember to select the option to be debited in the local currency of your destination.

¹The amount available for free exchange varies depending on the plan. Additionally, outside of foreign exchange market hours (from Friday 5:00pm to Sunday 6:00pm New York time), a 1% to 1.5% foreign exchange fee may apply.)

²The amount available for free ATM withdrawals varies depending on the plan. If you exceed the free limit, a 2% fee will be charged, but you'll still be able to make withdrawals, ensuring peace of mind in case of emergency.
