Once you've signed up, you can start using virtual cards, sending money, and more. To do this, you’ll need to add money to your account.
Make sure you have updated the app to the latest version.
What top-up methods can you use?

A credit/debit/prepaid card, which can also be made via Apple and Google Pay from 11 September 2024.
An inbound bank transfer, either from a domestic bank, or from 25 July 2024, an inbound bank transfer via SWIFT from overseas
Free instant bank top-ups from your Minna Bank account, which is available from 17 October 2024
Important information
For top-ups by card: money added by debit, credit, or prepaid card can't be transferred to others or withdrawn at an ATM. These funds can only be used for card payments (i.e. shopping).
What's the fee?
For top-ups by card:
Starting 17 May 2023, we added a 1.7% top up fee¹ (tax included) when topping up by card. However, we changed the fee structure as shown below, effective from 11 June 2024:
- We're removing our top-up fee for domestic Mastercard credit and debit cards
- The top-up fee for domestic Mastercard prepaid cards will be lowered from 1.7% to 1.3%
- A top-up fee of 1.7% for all international and commercial Mastercard cards will remain
- Money added by Visa debit cards (excluding international and commercial cards) will continue to be free of charge

For top-ups by bank transfer:
Your external bank might incur bank transfer fees — please refer to their T&Cs for more information.
- There's no fee for instant bank top-ups

We'll clearly display any fees in-app when you're topping up by card before you confirm the payment.
¹The top-up fee for Apple or Google Pay is the same as for card top-ups. For fee details, please see the Fees page.
What are the limits per charge?
- Your card top-up limit is ¥2,000–¥1,000,000
- For inbound bank transfers, we allow a maximum of ¥1,000,000
- For instant bank top-ups, you can transfer between ¥2,000–¥1,000,000
Important information
You won’t be able to receive transfers over 1 million JPY to your account. You’ll need to reach out to the source bank for a recall (‘Kumimodoshi’)² to get your money back.

How can you add money to your account via card?
- Go to the app and tap Add money
- Enter the amount you want to top up
- Tap Add card
- Enter the card details
- Tap Add money

How can you add money via Apple or Google Pay?
- Update the Revolut app to the latest version
- Tap the Add money now button below
- If Apple or Google Pay do not appear as the default top-up option, tap on Change, just above the amount and select them
- Tap on Pay
- Choose the card you would like to add money from
- Authenticate the transaction
Please note
- This service is available for cards previously added to Apple or Google Wallets on smartphone
- Some cards registered to an Apple Pay or Google Pay Wallet can't be used to top-up your Revolut account. For more information, please see this FAQ
- Funds made by top-up from a card cannot be transferred or ATM withdrawals (applies to all credit, debit, prepaid cards)
How can you add money to your account from domestic bank transfers?
- Open the app
- Tap Details
- Check your personal Rakuten virtual account details, make a transfer, and check that the information has been entered correctly

How can you add money to your account via SWIFT overseas bank transfers?
- Tap Account and select the currency
- Tap the Details icon
- You can find all the information you need in your international account details
- Share these details with anyone who wants to send money to you via SWIFT. Make sure that the information has been entered correctly
Please note
- You won't be able to use these account details for making Direct Debits (e.g. automatic monthly utility bills)
- Your bank might incur bank transfer fees ー please refer to your bank's terms and conditions for more information
- You can only receive JPY from a domestic bank, and won't be able to receive JPY through international transfers (SWIFT)
- You must submit and pass the MyNumber verification process in order to receive international inbound transfers. Refer to the FAQs about MyNumber submission
- We don't charge you any fees to receive SWIFT transfers, but the sending bank or intermediary banks may also apply their own fees
- Some currencies have both a BIC/SWIFT and correspondent BIC
- The beneficiary BIC is the account receiving the funds. Please use REVOJPJ2 as the BIC/SWIFT code for your account with Revolut. The correspondent BIC refers to an external bank through which we receive the funds
- Funds received will be monetisable, i.e. you can transfer them or withdraw from ATM

How long will it take?
For top-ups by bank transfer:
- For transfers made during business hours from domestic banks, the transfer is usually reflected in your Revolut account within a few minutes
- SWIFT transfers typically take 2 to 5 working days to reach their destination, but it may take longer if more intermediary banks are involved. Delays may occur depending on the transferring bank
- When you add money via instant bank top-ups, your transfer will usually take place within a minute
Which currencies can you receive?
You will be able to receive money in the following currencies: AUD, GBP, CAD, CZK, EUR, NZD, SGD, ZAR, CHF, THB, USD, AED, DKK, HKD, HUF, ILS, NOK, PLN, QAR, RON, SEK, and TRY.
