How to send and request money between friends on Revolut

Ever struggled to split the bill with friends? Maybe you’ve been short on coins at dinner or dealt with complicated calculations during a group trip. With our app, you can send and request money in JPY,¹ making it easy to skip the small change and settle up seamlessly. Sending money between Revolut customers is free and only takes a few seconds.

¹The minimum amount you can send is ¥150.

About transfers between friends

Only money added by bank transfer or transfers from other Revolut customers can be transferred — these are called monetisable funds. Monetisable funds can also be withdrawn from ATMs, and can be used to make donations.

To check your monetisable balance in-app, tap the icon in the top left of the home screen → go to Your Plan → Monetisable Limit.

Sending money to friends not in your contact list

If a friend isn’t in your contacts, you can send them money but won’t be able to request it. Take a look at the table below to see who you can send to and receive money​ from.

How to send a payment

1. From the home screen, tap Payments.
2. Choose from your Revolut friends, or tap + New in the top right corner.
3. Enter your friend’s Revtag² in the search bar, and select them. Or search for them with their phone number, email, or QR code.
4. Add the amount you want to send. You can even personalise your payment with a GIF and note.
5. Tap Send.

And that’s it! You’ve made a payment in a few simple steps.

²Revtags begin with @, and can be found below your name by tapping the icon in the top left of the home screen.

Don’t know your friend’s Revolut details?

You can still send money to, and receive money from them! To do this, create a payment link and send it to them externally. Learn more about Payment Links.

Sending money between overseas Revolut accounts

If you want to send money to or receive money from a Revolut customer who has an account with Revolut overseas, you'll need to submit your My Number information in advance.
