Currency converter FAQs

  • The exchange rate shows you how much your money's worth in another currency at any given moment. This value constantly changes depending on supply and demand in the market. Every provider sets its own conversion rates, so it's wise to compare your options and make sure you're getting the most out of your money. We use a real-time exchange rate that's continuously updated based on the buy and sell rates we receive from various independent data sources. The buy rate (also called the bid rate) estimates the highest rate that someone's willing to pay for a currency on the market, and the sell rate (also called the ask rate) represents the lowest rate at which someone is willing to sell the currency. You can check our current rates using our currency converter at the top of the page. You'll also see them in-app before you convert or send money abroad, along with any exchange or transfer fees. Our rates will be the same whether it's an in-app exchange, an exchange for an international money transfer, or an exchange for a payment in a different currency. Keep in mind that exchange rates fluctuate constantly, so always double-check the current rate in-app before converting.
  • You can calculate conversions for most major currencies with our currency converter, then exchange 36 currencies in-app and keep these currencies in your account. You can also send money to 160+ countries using Revolut.

Looking for a good way to spend during your next trip away? Pay in 150+ currencies with your Revolut card. US Dollars (USD), British Pounds (GBP), Euros (EUR), Indian Rupees (INR), and Swiss Francs (CHF) are some of our most popular currencies, but those are just the start.
  • We set our own exchange rates for currency conversion, just as banks and other financial providers often do. Depending on who you exchange with, you may pay more than you need to. When you exchange currencies or send money abroad with Revolut, you'll always see our exchange rates and fees in-app, so you can make an informed decision. That means no nasty surprises — ever. Find more info on our currency exchange rates in the Help Centre.
  • There are 3 types of transactions that involve currency conversion:
    • International money transfers

When you send money abroad to an account with a holding currency that's different from yours, we'll convert your money for you and show you our current conversion rate before you send.
    • In-app currency exchange

You can open a multi-currency account to exchange and keep up to 36 supported currencies in-app, so you're ready to spend whenever you need.
    • Card payments abroad

When you pay with your Revolut card in a foreign country, we'll automatically exchange your money to the local currency.
  • To convert money, just follow these steps.
    1. Download our app for iOS or Android, then sign up.
    2. Go to the Exchange section in-app.
    3. Select your holding currency and the currency you want to convert to. We currently support 36 currencies.
    4. Enter the amount you want to exchange.
    5. Check our exchange rate and any applicable fees in-app.
    6. Tap Confirm order and you're all done.
Check out our Help Centre for more info on how to exchange money.
  • You can make up to 100 exchanges every 24 hours, and there's no maximum amount you can exchange, no matter what plan you have. However, there are fair usage limits for Standard and Plus customers. Once you reach your limit, you'll pay a 1% fee if you have the Standard plan and 0.5% if you have the Plus plan. These limits apply on a rolling 30-day basis. You can keep track of all your currency conversions in-app.
  • Depending on your plan, the amount you're exchanging, and the day of the week, you may pay a currency exchange fee. You'll always see the total cost in-app before you convert, along with the Revolut exchange rate. If the amount you're exchanging is within your plan’s fair usage limit, you won't pay any currency exchange fees on weekdays. You'll pay a 1% fee on all currency exchanges during the weekend, no matter what plan you have. We charge weekend fees because currency exchange markets are closed during that time, and this fee helps us cover any changes in the exchange rate. If you're over your rolling monthly exchange allowance, you'll pay an additional fair usage fee, depending on your plan (1% for the Standard plan and 0.5% for the Plus plan). There are no fair usage fees with our Premium, Metal, and Ultra plans. These limits are set on a rolling monthly basis. You can check your fair usage limit and the date it'll reset under Your plan in your profile. For more information on your plan's fees, check out our terms and policies. Fees are subject to change, but don't worry — you'll always see them in-app before you convert.
  • We use two-factor authentication to make sure you're the only one who can log in to your account, and we'll send you anti-fraud warnings in-app if we suspect that a transfer may be a scam. We also protect your personal data with our full-stack security systems. Additionally, we use other security methods that vary depending on the Revolut entity you're registered to. Here's how you can learn more.
    1. Open the Revolut app.
    2. Click on your profile icon on the home screen.
    3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and see which Revolut entity shows up.
    4. Go to our Help Centre to read more on your Revolut entity and how we keep your money safe.
  • Currency availability varies depending on the method you choose when you convert money. Check out our supported currencies below. We're always adding to our list, so keep an eye out. In-app exchanges We currently support in-app exchanges in 36 holding currencies. This means you can keep any of those currencies in your account and exchange between them. If you exchange an amount in your main currency to a currency you don't hold yet, a separate balance will be created in your account so you can start spending. It's that easy. Money transfers You can send money in 70+ currencies to 160+ countries. All you have to do is start a transfer by choosing the amount you want to send in any of the 36 currencies you can hold, then choose the currency you want your recipient to get. We'll show you our rates and fees in-app, and automatically complete the exchange when you hit Send. Card payments You can pay in 150+ currencies with your Revolut card wherever Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Just shop with your card while you're abroad and we'll exchange to the local currency for you at our current exchange rate.
