How to transfer money from Revolut to your bank account
Product · 22 October 2025Clément Bolmont
For many of us, managing money involves balancing multiple accounts. You might use one for large bills, another for specific savings, and your Revolut account for its competitive exchange rates and innovative financial tools. Because of this multi-account strategy, knowing precisely how to send money from Revolut to your bank account is essential for staying in control.
It’s true that we're designed to be the only money app you’ll ever need, but when you do have to move money to an external account, we want to make sure you have total control.
Our step-by-step guide to sending money to a bank account
Moving money from your Revolut account to a bank account in the UK is processed as a local bank transfer. This is generally the fastest and most cost-effective way to move money.
The process is completed in-app and takes just a few moments.
Getting your external bank details ready
To ensure a smooth transfer, you’ll need the details for the UK current account you're sending money to. These include:
- Account holder name: the full name on the receiving account
- Sort code: the 6-digit bank and branch identifier
- Account number: the 8-digit account identifier
It's important to check these details before sending. Sort code and account number errors can cause significant delays or the money to be sent to the wrong person.
Starting the transfer in-app
Our app is intuitive and easy to use, making transfers simple. Here's how it works:
- Open the app and tap Payments. Then tap the + symbol in the top-left to navigate to New payment.
- Choose Bank, and add your recipient's details.
- Enter the exact amount you wish to transfer.
- Confirm the amount and check any applicable fees (for international payments or if you exceed allowances) and the estimated arrival time.
- Tap Send to finalise the transfer. You'll get a notification right away to confirm the payment's been sent.
- Track your transfer in Payments to see its progress in real-time.
Exchange fees, remittance fees, fair usage limits, and weekend fees apply.

How long does a transfer take?
The time it takes for money to move from your Revolut account to an external bank depends on the type of payment system used.
Understanding the Faster Payments service
In the UK, local transfers in GBP are typically processed via the Faster Payments Service (FPS).
- Instant arrival: most GBP transfers sent from your Revolut account to a UK bank account arrive within seconds. This is the expected speed for nearly all transfers within the country.
- 24/7 availability: unlike some traditional banks that may delay weekend payments, we initiate payments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Maximum delay: while instant transfers are the norm, in rare instances (such as routine maintenance, security checks, or bank downtime), a transfer may take up to a few hours.
International transfer times
When sending money to a bank account outside the UK, its speed depends on the destination country, the currency, and the specific transfer method chosen (e.g. SWIFT or local schemes).
- In-app estimates: before you confirm any international payment, get a clear, real-time estimate of the arrival time in-app
- Global network: we use a vast network of local and international payment systems, resulting in faster and more direct routing than traditional banks can offer
For details on sending money internationally, including rates and delivery times for specific currencies, you can explore our full guide on international transfers.
Understanding Revolut transfer fees and allowances
A key benefit of using Revolut is our clear, upfront approach to fees. We aim to keep costs low, but it's important to understand the free allowances associated with your plan. All fees are calculated in real-time and displayed in-app before you confirm any payment.
Local GBP transfer fees
- UK standard accounts: transfers in GBP to any external UK bank account are free, regardless of how many you make. This applies to all standard local transfers.
- Card transfers: if you choose to send money directly to a non-Revolut card number (a card transfer), a variable fee may apply. This will always be displayed in-app.
International transfer fee discounts
For transfers to accounts outside the UK, fees may apply, but these are often heavily discounted or waived entirely depending on your plan:
Plan | International transfer fee discount |
Standard & Plus | Standard fees apply (calculated in-app) |
Premium | 20% discount on international transfer fees |
Metal | 40% discount on international transfer fees |
Ultra | 100% discount (all international transfers are free) |
Currency exchange fair usage limits
When a transfer involves exchanging currency (e.g. sending euros to a GBP account), you benefit from highly competitive rates within your monthly exchange limit. Exceeding this limit will incur a small fair usage fee. The exchange limits for each plan are as follows:
- Standard plan: £1,000 equivalent per rolling month. Exchanges over this limit incur a 1% fair usage fee.
- Plus plan: £3,000 equivalent per rolling month. Exchanges over this limit incur a 0.5% fair usage fee.
- Premium, Metal, and Ultra plans: no exchange limit applies. You can exchange as much money as you like without incurring a fair usage fee.
These limits apply to all currency exchanges, including those for transfers, card payments, and internal conversions. You can check your remaining allowance in the Your plan section of the app.
Paid plan fees and T&Cs apply.

Using your Revolut card for cash withdrawals
While most customers prefer electronic transfers, another common way to access your money is via an ATM withdrawal using your card.
ATM limits and charges
You can withdraw up to £3,000 (or the equivalent in another currency) every 24 hours with your Revolut card. This limit exists to protect your money and can't be increased.
Be aware that the owner of an ATM (the third-party operator) may charge their own separate operator fee. Our app can help you find surcharge-free ATMs.
ATM fee-free allowances by plan
We offer a set maximum for fee-free ATM withdrawals per rolling month, depending on your plan. Once you go over this amount, a fair usage fee applies (2% of the withdrawal amount, subject to a minimum of £1 per withdrawal).
Plan | Fee-free rolling monthly withdrawal allowance |
Standard | £200 or 5 withdrawals (whichever comes first) |
Plus | £200 |
Premium | £400 |
Metal | £800 |
Ultra | £2,000 |
No-fee ATM withdrawals within plan limits. Third parties may charge ATM fees.
Your exchange rate: the Revolut difference
Knowing the exchange rate is important if you're moving money from a foreign currency in Revolut to another GBP account, or vice versa.
We use a dynamic, real-time exchange rate that continuously updates based on the buy and sell rates we receive from various independent data sources. For most currencies during weekday market hours, this is the highly competitive interbank exchange rate, with no added hidden mark-up from us (subject to your plan's fair usage limit mentioned above).
If you exchange money outside currency exchange market hours (5pm Friday to 6pm Sunday ET), we apply a small mark-up (1% for Standard; 0.5% for Plus, Premium, and Metal plans; none for Ultra) because the market is closed and we need to protect against fluctuations.
You always see the total cost including the exchange rate, any fair usage fee, and any weekend mark-up in-app before you confirm the transaction.
