How Revolut protects you from fraud and scams
Security · 19 May 2026Dimitri de Perthuis
According to UK Finance, over £1 billion was stolen through fraud in the UK in 2024. At Revolut, there's a dedicated Financial Crime team working behind the scenes whose sole focus is keeping customers safe: from the moment you sign up to every transaction you make. Fraud protection is built into the foundations of how we operate.
At a glance: how we protect you
- Every customer goes through identity verification at sign-up, with ongoing monitoring after that
- Real-time automated systems and human review identify unusual activity
- You can freeze your card instantly in-app if something doesn't look right
- Virtual cards, spending limits, and real-time notifications give you direct control
- Report suspected fraud directly in-app, 24/7
What counts as financial fraud or a scam?
Klaudia Dziergwa, Financial Crime Operations Manager at Revolut, spoke about her role in an episode of The Revolut Insider podcast: "It's all the sorts of things people do to cheat the system — money laundering, fraud, bribery. Basically anything that's illegal and involves money."
Some of the most common types of fraud affecting customers are:
- Authorised push payment (APP) scams: you're tricked into transferring money to a fraudster, often posing as your bank or a family member. According to UK Finance, authorised push payment scams alone accounted for £450.7 million in losses in the UK in 2024.
- Unauthorised fraud: your card details or cheques are stolen or lost and used without your knowledge. Or a criminal gains access to your bank account through a remote banking channel
- Identity fraud: someone uses your personal details to open accounts or make transactions
- Phishing: scammers impersonate trusted organisations to steal your login credentials

How Revolut approaches fraud protection
Revolut has a dedicated financial crime team — and Klaudia, as Financial Crime Operations Manager, works in a department that spans KYC operations, compliance, quality assurance, and working with other internal teams to bring automation into KYC processes.
She's clear on what the team is there to do: "We aim to make sure our customers are protected and we deliver our service to the highest quality. Our environment is built on trust and integrity."
That includes the customer-facing side, too. Klaudia is direct about the investment being made: "My team and I are focused on expanding our Customer Support team and investing in training programmes to empower our team members to provide exceptional service." Our support is available 24/7 via in-app chat. So if you're dealing with a suspected scam, you're not waiting until Monday morning.
In practice, that means a combination of technology and human expertise working together. Our AI systems identify high-risk transactions and suspicious spending patterns immediately, detecting more than 95% of attempted scams. For the highest-risk cases, a dedicated fraud prevention team engages directly with customers to review and act.
How does Revolut detect fraud on your account?
Staying ahead of fraud is an ongoing challenge. As Klaudia puts it: "The bad guys are coming up with new tricks, not just targeting Revolut, but all financial companies. So we have to be one step ahead. That means using the latest technology, keeping an eye on suspicious activity, and making sure our defences are rock solid."
Her team's job is to anticipate those tactics before they reach customers, through prevention, protection, and review. KYC verification at sign-up is the starting point, but as Klaudia explains, the work spans "customer onboarding to ongoing monitoring." It doesn't stop once your account is open. Ongoing monitoring means suspicious activity can be detected and reviewed before it becomes a bigger problem.
