Revolut, the global financial leader with more than 80 million customers, today announced it has received its licence to operate (licencia de funcionamiento) from the Superintendencia Financiera de Colombia (SFC). This definitive authorization will allow Revolut to operationalize as a regulated bank in Colombia, marking another key step towards transforming the Colombian financial landscape.
Revolut enters the Colombian market following another record year. According to its 2025 Annual Report, the Group achieved revenues of US$ 6 billion (a 46% increase year-on-year) and pre-tax profits of US$ 2.3 billion, marking its fifth consecutive year of net profitability. With total customer balances reaching US$ 67.5 billion, Revolut is set to arrive in Colombia with an ambition to resolve historical frictions in money management across borders.
Nik Storonsky, Founder and CEO of Revolut, commented: "Securing this licence allows us to bring our cutting-edge technology and financial stability to a dynamic market, offering Colombians a transparent platform that puts power back in their hands. With over 80 million people already trusting Revolut and a balance sheet that reflects our strong and sustained profitability, we are proving that financial control can, and should be, borderless."
With a full banking licence granted by the SFC, Revolut is set to soon launch a comprehensive portfolio of financial products in Colombia. Meeting the strict regulatory capital requirements highlights the project's financial strength and the company's long-term commitment to the country, while Fogafín deposit insurance ensures protection for users under the local regulatory framework.
Diego Caicedo, CEO of Revolut Colombia added "Today we are one step closer to operating in Colombia. We are not going to just launch as a bank ; we are connecting Colombia to the global economy, simplifying remittances and access to world-class products in one single place, supported by the infrastructure of one of the world's most innovative financial platforms. This licence is an important regulatory milestone, and we are excited to demonstrate the value of our proposition in the Colombian market.”
Revolut has continued its global expansion in 2026, obtaining bank licenses in France, Australia and the UK. This year the company has also received conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for its U.S. national bank charter, been granted a payments license in the UAE, and granted an Organisation Licence by the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS) of Peru. The company remains on track to reach 100 million customers by mid-2027.
