Birmingham, London and Newcastle named the UK’s racing heartlands as Revolut launches Silverstone Car Tour

Revolut, the UK licensed bank, has revealed the findings of a nationwide survey of 3,000 British adults, identifying where the UK’s most passionate motorsport fans live, how they engage with the sport, and how much they spend to follow it.

Released to mark the launch of Revolut’s nationwide tour of the R26, the Audi Revolut F1® car, the findings, conducted by Censuswide, paint a picture of a nation deeply invested in motorsport, with 48% of UK adults having followed the 2025 season. The fandom runs deep, with more than a quarter (26%) of the population waking up early or staying up late to catch international race sessions live.

Regional Racing Heartlands

The study highlights intense regional pockets of fandom across the country:

Birmingham: The UK’s strongest traditional motorsport hub, with 22% of residents identifying as hardcore fans (combining “Dedicated Viewers” and “Superfans”). Fans in Birmingham also spend more on individual race tickets than anywhere else in the country, averaging £278.54.

London: Nearly one in ten Londoners report watching every practice, qualifying session and race, while citydwellers have reported an average maximum spend of £227.51 on a single race ticket.

Newcastle: Emerges as the UK’s online racing capital with Geordies consuming motorsport mostly through social media, fan accounts and creators (10%), reflecting the changing ways audiences engage with the sport.

Leeds: Outspends the rest of the country on fan culture, recording the highest spend on merchandise, gaming and subscriptions (£77.49).

Manchester: 26% of Mancs routinely set up early alarms or stay up past midnight to catch live international sessions.

Removing Barriers to Live Races

The data also reveals that live experiences of elite motorsport remain out of reach for many of these passionate communities. For those that make it to the track, the median highest cost spent on a race ticket is £211.68 and finances remain a major deterrent for UK fans, with between 29% and 48% of respondents citing expensive ticket prices, high travel/accommodation costs or both as the main reason they haven’t attended a live Grand Prix in the last three years.

Physical geography is another major friction point, with an additional 15% stating that racetracks are too far away from their hometowns.

Bringing the Paddock to the Public

To celebrate motorsport fandom across the UK and bring racing culture to the fans, Revolut is launching a nationwide tour of the Audi Revolut F1® Team R26 show car ahead of Silverstone, visiting 14 cities throughout June.

The tour will bring fans closer to the engineering, innovation and community behind elite racing through high-octane games. Revolut customers and those that sign up on the day can play for a chance to win exclusive merchandise and the ultimate Silverstone experience.

Emily Lewis, Head of Growth for UK, Ireland and Nordics at Revolut said: “The UK's passion for motorsport is deep-rooted, from fans in Manchester setting 5:30am alarms to Birmingham investing heavily in race days. As the country's newest bank, Revolut is on a mission to break down barriers and accelerate the financial lives of our customers. With this tour, we're bringing that same philosophy to motorsport - giving fans the chance to see the Audi Revolut F1® Team R26 up close, completely free, with exclusive perks for Revolut customers."

Revolut became title partner to Audi Revolut F1® Team for its debut on motorsport’s biggest stage in the 2026 season. The partnership is already off to a flying start, with an exclusive 20x RevPoints booster on merchandise bought from the official Audi Revolut F1® store for Revolut customers, while the official card design of the Audi Revolut F1® team is coated in the same titanium as the R26. The car tour takes place ahead of the team’s first race at Silverstone, a home race for Revolut, which officially became a UK bank in March 2026.
