The digital revolution: how Revolut is bringing 24/7 convenience to banking
Security · 19 December 2024Team Revolut
In the fast-paced world we live in today, traditional banking hours just aren’t cutting it. Physical branches often follow a strict 9–5 schedule, typically closing on weekends. Many now have their own online support, but with a 24/7 digital bank, people can open new accounts, access their money, and resolve issues any time, from anywhere.
Here's a look at how the future of banking is already available, and why.
Opening an account online with Revolut
Opening a bank account at a traditional branch usually means setting up an appointment, bringing along identification, and filling out lots of paperwork. With Revolut’s digital banking offerings, opening an account can be done in just a few steps from your phone, tablet, or computer. Customers can register, verify their identity, and start banking within minutes — all from the comfort of their couch, or even on-the-go.
Not only is creating an account convenient, but it allows customers to personalise their banking preferences, set up automatic payments, and receive personalised recommendations — all without ever stepping foot in a physical branch. And if you have any questions along the way, Revolut’s in-app guides and 24/7 support ensure that help is always available.
Revolut customer support — different to traditional banks?
Traditional banks may limit their customer service to office hours. Their branches close in the evenings, and Sundays are typically out of the question. This leaves customers who have urgent problems with fewer of their usual options available to resolve them.
With 24/7 customer support, Revolut offers an entirely different experience. Whether you prefer to get in touch via in-app chat or email, you’re never limited by business hours. So, addressing financial matters no longer means taking time out of your workday, spending lunch breaks in line, or stressing over an issue that pops up over the weekend.
On top of that, Revolut’s extensive FAQs can provide you with quick answers to standard questions.
Is Revolut safe?
A common myth about online banking is that it’s inherently less secure than traditional banking. But Revolut has invested significantly in top-tier security measures. All of our customers receive 24/7 protection through proactive, purpose-built defences and monitoring by a team of financial crime prevention specialists. Layered on top of that is our biometric verification process and personalised security settings, which allow us to help keep your money extra secure from fraud — any time, anywhere.
Our customers hold more than £18 billion with us, and we work relentlessly 24/7 every day to help keep their accounts safe. Our sophisticated algorithms are at work around the clock, monitoring accounts and sending immediate notifications if anything unusual is detected. And we’ve created a suite of tools and resources that empower you to stay safe from fraud and scams — like instant card freezes, custom spending limits, and location-based restrictions. There are more than 10 settings you can customise directly in the app — putting control firmly back in your hands.
Does Revolut have a banking licence?
In the European Economic Area (EEA), Revolut Bank UAB, is authorised by the European Central Bank and the Bank of Lithuania and is a bank in 30 EEA countries.
The Revolut Group holds several licences and authorisations globally, giving us the power to provide you financial services including e-money account holding, stock trading, virtual currencies, insurance, and more. In 2023, we rolled out local IBANs — or international bank account numbers — in Spain, France, and Ireland, with many more planned, so customers can use Revolut as their main accounts for core everyday financial needs.
In the UK, Revolut has been authorised with restrictions as a UK bank. Revolut now enters a 'mobilisation' period. During mobilisation, we'll complete the setup of our banking processes before we start to operate as a bank in the UK.
Once our setup is complete and we are ready to operate as a bank in the UK, we'll notify you of the next steps.
The verdict: branchless finance you can trust
As people around the world increasingly embrace the flexibility, efficiency, and security of digital finance, the limitations of physical bank branches become clearer everyday.
