Revolut – Kids & Teens
Kids & Teens is the account for 6–17 year olds. It empowers your kid to learn about money, in a parent-supervised space.
Kids get the financial freedom of their own app and card, while you get visibility on your app. From spending limits to in-app card freezing, you’ve got total oversight.
To learn more about the benefits of a Kids & Teens account, and what you can do with it, visit our blog: Empower their independence with Revolut for Kids & Teens.
Getting started
Are you a parent, curious about an account for kids and teens? If you have hesitations, or aren't sure how to begin, this blog post is for you.
We'll explain how to:
- create an account for your kid
- order a card for your kid
- send them money (one-off payments, setting up a recurring amount, and sending money for completing challenges)
- check their transaction history
If you don't have your own Revolut account yet, please create one for yourself first. The steps are listed below.
How to create your Revolut account
- Download the Revolut app from the App Store or Google Play Store and tap Sign up
- Enter your mobile phone number (start with the country code, then remove the first 0) → Create account
- Enter the 6-digit code you receive via SMS, then follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process
- Order a physical Revolut card, create a virtual one, or choose both
For more details of the process, visit our blog: How do I sign up to Revolut?
How to create an account for your kid
- Tap Accounts on your app's home screen → + Add new
- Tap the For Kids & Teens tab → Kids & Teens account
- Enter your kid's information and follow the on-screen prompts
How to order a card for your kid
If your kid is 15 or under, you must order the card from your own account.
If your kid is 16 or older, you can order the card from your own account, or your kid can order it themselves from their app. When they order a card, the setup is complete once you approve the request in your app.
Regardless of your kid's age, when the card arrives, you'll need to activate it from your own app.
Ordering from your app
- Tap the card icon in the top-right corner of your home screen → + Add new
- Tap Kids & Teens → Physical card
- Tap the account that you want to order the card for, then follow the on-screen prompts to select and create the card — you can even customise it with a design
- Set a PIN code
- Confirm the delivery address and finalise the order
Ordering from the kid's app (for ages 16+)
Open their Revolut — Kids & Teens app and follow the same steps as above.
After finalising the order, a notification will be sent to your app. You'll need to review the design, name, and delivery address, then approve the order if everything is correct.
When the card arrives
- Tap the card icon in the top-right corner of your app's home screen
- Select your kid's card from the list → Activate now
- Enter the 16-digit card number printed on the card → Activate
How to send money to your kid
Add money to your account first
You'll need money in your own account to send money to your kid. For details on how to add money, please refer to our blog: Adding money to your account.
Please note, only money added from a bank account can be sent to your kid's account.
Money added from credit, prepaid, or debit cards can't be sent from your account to your kid's account. Money added from cards can be used for your own card payments, but also can't be used for overseas ATM withdrawals or donations.
You can check how much of your balance is from a bank transfer using the following steps:
- Tap the profile icon in the top-left corner of your app's home screen
- Select Your plan
- Check the amount shown under Monetisable balance in the Your limits section — this is the amount you can send to your kid
Send a one-off amount
First, navigate to your kid's account screen within your Revolut app using 1 of the following 3 ways:
- Tap Accounts from your app's home screen then select your kid's account from the list
- Select your kid's account, located below your transaction history on your app's home screen
- Swipe left on your balance on the home screen to navigate to your kid's account screen
Once you're on their account, follow these steps:
- Tap Send money and set the amount (a minimum of JPY150 is required)
- Add a note for your reference (this is optional)
- Tap Send and the amount will arrive in your kid's account within seconds
In the same menu, you can tap Withdraw to retrieve money from your kid's account.
Set up a recurring, automatic allowance
Navigate to your kid's account screen and tap Allowance beneath Automations. Set the amount, select the day of your choice, then tap the right arrow icon below.
The amount will be sent automatically each week after 9.00am Japan Time on the set day.
Send a reward for completing a challenge
Navigate to your kid's account screen and tap Challenges. Enter the details prompted on-screen, and choose either One-off or Recurring. All active challenges will be displayed in a list.
When your kid completes a challenge and taps Mark as complete in their app, you'll receive a push notification. Tap the notification → Pay. The allowance will be sent to the kid's app, and they'll receive a push notification letting them know it's arrived.
If your kid needs an allowance and wants to do more challenges, they can send a request to you. From their app, they'll need to tap Request challenge from the Earn menu on the home screen. You'll receive a notification on your own app, and you can follow the steps above to set up another challenge.
How to check your kid's transaction history
You can check your kid's spending from your own app, making it a stress-free, shared experience.
Simply head to their account screen from your own, scroll down, and tap See all.
How kids can send money to each other
This feature is available for kids aged 13 years or older, and you'll need to register their phone number on their account.
