Welcome to part two of our anti-fraud security series. Today, we're tackling phishing scams, the most widespread type of fraud on the web.
How to catch phishing emails and texts in the act
Common phishing tactics
Fraudsters frequently impersonate government agencies and local governments, such as the National Tax Agency and city halls, banks, delivery services, tax offices, or popular shopping sites, sending messages designed to create urgency or panic.
Here are a few examples of messages to look out for:
- "Security Alert: suspicious login detected. Your account has been temporarily locked."
- "Action Required: update your payment details within 24 hours to avoid service interruption."
- "Delivery Failed: your package could not be delivered. Tap here to reschedule."
- "Urgent: final notice regarding your outstanding balance."
Messages like these often use high-pressure tactics or create a false sense of urgency.
These messages contain links to fake websites that look identical to real login portals. If you enter your passwords, card numbers, or passcode on these pages, fraudsters steal them to access your funds.
How to protect yourself
1. Check the sender's details carefully
Even if the sender's name says "Revolut" or another brand you trust, look closely at the full email address or domain name (e.g. @something.com). Fraudsters often use slight misspellings or random characters.
2. Never tap links in unexpected messages
If you receive an urgent alert about your account, don't tap the link in the message. Always open the Revolut app directly to check your account status. Even if urged to call immediately, don't use the number in the message. Always look up official contact details on the official website.
Remember: Revolut reaches out through secure in-app chats and official notifications. We'll never ask for your passcodes or full card details via email or text.
If you suspect you've entered your details on a fake website, change your passwords immediately and freeze your cards in the Revolut app.
