At Revolut, keeping your money safe is our top priority.
Financial scams and fraud are becoming more sophisticated by the day. Fraudsters are using advanced technology, fake identities, and high-pressure tactics to trick even the most cautious people. Thinking 'it won't happen to me' is often when we're most vulnerable.
To help you stay protected, we're launching a 6-part security series covering the most common scams targeting consumers today — and how you can avoid them.
Common scams to watch out for
We'll dive deep into each of these tactics:
Scam type | How it works |
Phishing scams | Fake emails, SMS messages, or websites pretending to be trusted brands to steal your login details or card details. |
Romance scams | Fraudsters build fake relationships on social media or dating apps over weeks or months, then request money or investment. |
Police & Public Body scams | Scammers pose as police officers or government officials, alleging you're involved in a crime, and demand money transfers to 'clear your name'. |
Investment scams | Fake ads featuring celebrities or AI-generated videos leading to messaging groups and fraudulent trading apps promising 'guaranteed' returns. |
Tech Support scams | Pop-up warnings claiming your device is infected with a virus, urging you to call a fake helpline or grant remote access. |
3 golden rules of anti-fraud protection
No matter how clever a scam seems, sticking to these 3 principles will keep you safe:
- Never trust unexpected contact: be cautious of unsolicited calls, messages, or emails from unknown, hidden, or international numbers.
- Don't tap the link: never log in to your account through links sent via email or SMS. Always open your Revolut app directly or use a saved bookmark.
- Pause and verify: if anyone asks you to transfer money or share security codes urgently, stop immediately. Speak to a trusted friend or contact official support channels.
Spot the signs. Protect your money.
