If you are located in Japan, please be aware that using your Revolut card or app for online gambling — even with overseas casinos — is considered illegal under Japanese law.
Here's everything you need to know:
What are the laws about online gambling in Japan?
Here are the relevant offences as enforced by Japanese law:
- Gambling offence: a person who gambles shall be subject to a fine of up to JPY 500,000 or a petty fine
- Habitual gambling offence: a person who habitually gambles shall be subject to imprisonment for up to 3 years
For more details, see Penal Code — Article 185 and 186.
The revised 'Basic Act on Countermeasures for Gambling Addiction' was enacted in June 2025. This law prohibits the act of presenting websites and apps that provide illegal online gambling, including online casinos, and disseminating information that leads to illegal online gambling.
To learn more, please refer to this public announcement on the government's website.
What activities are prohibited?
Online casinos may include 'paid versions', 'free versions', 'free bonuses' (points), as well as games like baccarat, slots, sports betting, etc. Regardless of their name or content, none of these services can be used with Revolut.
In addition, gambling-related activities are prohibited under our Personal Terms.
We appreciate your cooperation as we work to ensure Revolut remains a trusted and secure environment for customers in Japan.
