What to remember about Revolut international transfers

Here's a quick summary of how we'll handle your international payments:

  • Speed: Your transfers may arrive in minutes, while SWIFT payments can take 3–5 business days.
  • Fees: We'll show you exactly what you’ll pay before you hit Send. Fees depend on your plan and the currency.
  • Rates: We use a competitive exchange rate for our currency conversions.
  • Limits: For most currencies, there are no preset maximum transfer amounts.
  • Convenience: You'll manage everything in-app, from adding money to tracking your payment.

Are Revolut transfers available in the US?

Yes, we're fully available in the US. We've got a range of plans tailored to your needs, from our Standard account with no monthly maintenance fees to our Premium and Metal plans that offer extra benefits for frequent travelers and international senders.

$0 account fees for our Standard account only. Paid Plan Terms apply for Metal and Premium plans.

To open an account in the US, we've made the process as easy as possible. While some providers require a Social Security number (SSN), we also accept an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). If you're an international student or a temporary worker without either, you'll still be able to sign up for an account with just a government-issued ID (like a passport) and a valid US visa.

Can I make an international wire transfer with Revolut?

While "wire transfer" is often a catch-all term in the US, your international payments with us move through different networks depending on where your money's going. When you start a Revolut international money transfer, you'll have several options:

  • Bank transfer: This is the digital version of a traditional wire transfer. You'll be able to send money to accounts in over 150 countries.
  • Revolut-to-Revolut: If your recipient's also a customer, you can send money within seconds across the globe with no transfer fees. Currency exchange fees may apply.
  • Card transfers: You can send money directly to a recipient's supported Visa or Mastercard.

You're not limited to just one of these options. You'll be able to mix and match them depending on the kind of transfer you need to make.

Revolut international transfer fees

One of the hurdles with some transfers is the unpredictable cost. We aim for total clarity. We'll show you what you’ll pay before you commit to the transaction.

Understanding variable and flat fees

The cost of your transfer's generally made up of a few different parts:

  • Transfer fees: For most international bank transfers, we'll charge a fee that's calculated in real-time. For foreign currency transfers, a flat fee may apply for certain SWIFT routes.
  • Standard vs paid plans: If you’re on a Premium or Metal plan, you'll get a discount on transfer fees, or even a certain number of no-fee transfers included in your plan each month.

Revolut international money transfers and exchange rates

The exchange rate is where many providers add a fee. We use our own competitive exchange rate, with an embedded mark-up.

Weekend mark-ups and fair usage limits

To keep our service sustainable while global markets are closed, we apply a mark-up on currency exchanges during the weekend. This is the period between Friday 5pm EST and Sunday 6pm EST.

  2. Tap + NewInternational
  3. Select the destination country and currency
  4. Enter the amount you'd like to send

What information do I need to make an international transfer with Revolut?

To ensure your Revolut international money transfer arrives, you'll need a few key details from your recipient. We'll prompt you in-app for exactly what's needed based on the country you select.

Required information for bank transfers:

  • Recipient’s full legal name
  • Recipient's bank name
  • Account number or IBAN
  • BIC or SWIFT code

For Revolut-to-Revolut transfers, the process is even simpler. You'll just need the recipient's phone number, email, or their unique Revtag.

How long does an international transfer take with Revolut?

While many transfers are near-immediate, the time frame for an international transfer depends on the type you use:

  • Revolut-to-Revolut: These arrive nearly as soon as you hit Send
  • Domestic US transfers: USD transfers within the US typically arrive within hours, but can take up to 2 business days
  • International SWIFT transfers: Payments to more remote locations or in less common currencies via SWIFT can take 3–5 business days

We'll always give you an estimated arrival date before you send, and we'll keep you updated with push notifications until the money lands.

What's the Revolut transfer limit?

One of the benefits of using us is our flexibility. For the vast majority of currencies and countries, we don't set a maximum amount for your transfers. Whether you're sending $50 or $50,000, the process is the same.

However, very large transfers might be subject to additional security checks due to international regulations. If we need more information, we'll reach out to you directly in-app. This is simply to keep your money and account safe.
