What to remember when sending money to the Philippines from the US
The Philippines has a highly developed digital payment system, but it comes with specific requirements. Let's break it down:
- SWIFT network: This network is reliable and used worldwide, but it's often slow and may carry intermediary fees. We opt for local payment systems that bypass SWIFT when possible to get your money there faster.
- What you'll need: Your recipient's account details. If you’re sending money to another Revolut customer, however, you'll only need their phone number or Revtag.
- Cost-effective solution: We offer a balance of speed, competitive fees, and the ability to send Philippine pesos (PHP) from your account.

How to transfer money to the Philippines with your Revolut account
Revolut makes it easy to manage your money across borders. If you live in the US, you can easily send Philippine Pesos (PHP) directly from your USD balance with competitive exchange rates and fast processing times that skip traditional banking delays.
If you’re not in a hurry, you can monitor the dynamic exchange rates right in the app and trigger your transfer whenever the rate is right for you. Plus, when you travel to the Philippines, you can spend like a local using your Revolut card — we’ll handle the currency conversion automatically.
Using the SWIFT network for Philippine money transfers
The SWIFT network is the global system that financial institutions use to talk to each other. It connects over 11,000 financial institutions. While it's a secure way to move money, it wasn't built to support the speed or low costs you might expect today.
For transfers to the Philippines, using SWIFT can sometimes mean your money passes through multiple institutions before reaching its destination. Each of these institutions may take a cut, which could mean your recipient ends up with less than what you sent.
At Revolut, we use local payment systems when available, meaning your transfer to the Philippines may be able to bypass the SWIFT network entirely.
The cost of traditional wires via SWIFT
If you use a US provider that relies only on SWIFT to send money to the Philippines, your costs can go up quickly. Intermediary financial institutions inside the SWIFT network may also apply their own fees, which are often deducted along the way.
Why exchange rate markups matter
The exchange rate is another cost to watch out for. Most providers, including ourselves, include a markup in the exchange rate.
We may apply a small fee for international transfers that we'll show you in-app before you hit Send. However, you won't be charged intermediary fees as long as the transfer doesn't travel via SWIFT, and our exchange rates are competitive, so more of your money will reach the person you're sending it to.
How long does a transfer to the Philippines take?
A SWIFT transfer to the Philippines can take 3–5 business days. This is because your money may pass through one or more other institutions before reaching its destination. This isn't great if you're sending money for a festive occasion or an emergency.
We offer faster money transfer options. By using local payment systems, our transfers can arrive sooner.

Safety and regulations for your transfers to the Philippines
When you're sending money across borders, safety is key. Both the US and the Philippines have strong systems in place to protect your money. In the Philippines, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) keep an eye on transfers to help prevent financial crime.
Sending a large amount may trigger a manual review of your transfer. This is a normal part of the process and is designed to keep everyone safe. You don't need to do anything, but it's good to know it can happen. We’ll contact you in-app if we have any questions regarding your transfer.
According to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, it's also worth checking if the recipient's bank has any receiving fees. Some Philippine banks may charge a small fee to process incoming international transfers, which could mean your friend ends up with slightly less than you sent them.
