What if I lose my Revolut card?

Customers can block and deactivate their pre-paid card instantly via the Revolut app. This can be done in three clicks. Go to "Cards”, press the button “Disable", then “Report lost or stolen”. This will deactivate your card. Then swipe to the right to order a replacement card. We will deliver the new card to you.

Using a MetroCard Vending Machine in the United States

If you use your RevolutCard at a MetroCard Vending Machine (MVM) in the United States, you will be asked to enter your 'zip code' for verification. Please type in “99999” when prompted for a zip code. This indicates that an international card is being used and your transaction will be authorised.

    Using a Travelex/Cardtronics ATM

Please be aware that when you withdraw funds from a Travelex ATM, Travelex will convert your money using their own exchange rate (even if you opt to be charged in the local currency). ATM withdrawals

Sometimes when you use an ATM, you will be asked to choose between a 'credit', 'checking' or 'savings' account. You should always choose either a 'checking' or 'savings' account.

If the ATM (or card terminal) asks whether you would like to complete the transaction 'with conversion' or 'without conversion', you should ALWAYS choose 'without conversion'.

As a rule of thumb, you should always opt to be charged in the local currency of the country you’re in! If you’re in Thailand choose Thai Baht, in Spain, Euros or in the United States, Dollars.

If you choose 'with conversion', the merchant or ATM provider can apply their own exchange rate. This rate usually has a mark-up on the interbank rate, enabling the ATM provider or merchant to make a profit on your transaction.

What type of card is my Revolut card?

    A Mastercard© or Visa Debit.

Can I have more than one card for my Revolut account?

You can have up to two physical RevolutCards per account, meaning a backup in case of emergencies. The cards can be used in unison, or you can disable the extra card RevolutCard in the App and tap 'Enable Card' as and when you need it.

If you’ve ever lost your bank card, you’ll know how annoying it is to sift through your accounts for online purchases and update your card details. With Revolut, you can also generate an impossible-to-lose virtual card for all of your online payments (Uber, Deliveroo etc.). You can have up to 5 virtual RevolutCards.

To order a spare RevolutCard, head to the 'Card' section in the App and swipe left on your virtual RevolutCard. You can also give your cards a 'tag' to help you remember what they're for. Please note, the tag will not be printed on your physical RevolutCard.

If you ordered a spare Revolut card in the app, it will already be linked and ready to use.

If you have received a physical card given to you by a member of our team, go to the 'Cards' section of the app and choose the option 'Link existing Revolut card. Enter the 16-digit number on the front of your new card or scan your card details by tapping the 'Camera' icon.

This card should then appear in the ‘Card’ section of the app. If not, log out via the 'Profile' section and log back in. Please remember, the PIN for your card will change.

If you need to re-link your original Revolut card, please contact the in-app support as it is not possible to do this in the app.

Where can I find my Revolut card PIN?

Once your card has been delivered go to the 'Card' section in the Revolut App and tap 'Show my PIN'. Please note, your passcode is NOT your PIN.

What should I do if I entered the wrong PIN for my Revolut card?

If you enter the wrong PIN for your Revolut card three times, your PIN will block as a security measure. To reactivate your Revolut card PIN, please contact us via the in-app support so we can reset it for you. Once we have reset your PIN, you just need to reactivate it in a modern chip-enabled ATM by withdrawing a small amount of money.

To locate a chip-enabled ATM, please use the Mastercard or Visa ATM locator. Just add some information about your location, make sure the terminal has its 'Chip Reader Enabled' and search for an ATM.

    Profile

    I cannot verify my identity

The verification process might take up to 10 minutes. If your verification failed, please make sure that the re-taken pictures are clear and all the document details are readable without any blur or glare. A picture of a picture will not be accepted.

Please note that we currently only accept over-18 residents from the European Economic Area and Switzerland.

Once you have verified your identity, you can’t change your name and date of birth in the app so just contact support and we'll help out.

    I forgot my passcode

If you forget your passcode, press 'Forgot?' when logging in to your Revolut app and follow the instructions to reset your passcode.

    I lost my phone

Your Revolut card will still function the same without your smartphone. You would still be able to make card payments, withdraw cash, and top up your Revolut account via transfer if you know your reference/account number. Alternatively, download the Revolut app on a new device, attempt to log in with your mobile number, and then choose the option 'I haven't received a code' to chat with a live agent, so we can provide you with the verification code that you'll need to login.

Please do not create a duplicated account in this case.

How can I edit my profile details?

Go to the 'More' section of our app, tap 'Profile' and then 'Personal details'. Here you can change your name, address, phone number, email and passcode for the app. Just click on the relevant field and enter the new information.

If you edit your phone number, you'll need to tap 'log out' at the bottom of the 'Profile' page and log in with your new mobile number to verify it.

Please note, once you have verified your identity you won't be able to change your personal details in the app.If you need to make any changes just message us on the in-app support. You will need to verify these changes - for example with a marriage certificate.

Can I change my mobile number?

Go to the 'More' section of our app, tap 'Profile' and then 'Personal details'. You can edit your mobile number here. Then, you should log out via the bottom of the 'Profile' page and log back in with your new number to verify it.

If you cannot access the app as you need a 6-digit verification code message, please attempt to log in with your old mobile number and then select the option 'I haven't Received Code' to speak to our in-app support.

Note : Once your account has been verified, changes can not been done from the app.

How do I verify my identity?

Some UK users won't need to verify their identity, as we'll do it electronically behind the scenes. UK users should try and top-up their Revolut account with a debit card first. If we can't verify your identity electronically, you will be prompted to do the following:

Go to the 'More' section of our app, tap 'Profile' and then 'Verification & limits'. You will be need to take a photo of a valid government issued photo ID and a photo of your face. We may request a copy of your legal right to remain (e.g. visa, residence permit) if you provide a passport issued in a country outside of the European Union.

Some tips to ensure the ID verification goes smoothly: - Make sure to take a clear photo of your ID, where all details are visible - The photos should be taken somewhere brightly lit - Turn flash off to reduce glare on your ID documents - Make sure the details on your Revolut profile match the details on your legal document - Make sure that your legal document has at least 3 month validity left on it

Your identity will be verified automatically by our software within 15 minutes. If you are having difficulty or have any questions, please contact us via the in-app support.

If your passport was issued in a country outside of the European Union, you will also need to provide evidence of your right to remain via the in-app support. This can be a visa, a European passport or a residence permit. Please contact the in-app support for further details.

Why do I need to verify my identity?

You need to verify your identity in order to top up and use your Revolut account. This policy is in line with a UK banking regulation called 'Know your Customer’ (KYC) and is the process of a business verifying the identity of its clients. It is simply an anti-corruption and fraud measure.

Until you have completed this step, you are not bound by Revolut’s General Terms of Service. Any card top ups or bank transfers you send into your Revolut account before verifying your identity will be made at your own risk and are subject to applicable fees. For help with this step, please refer to the question above.

How can I verify my debit card?

Verifying your top-up card lets us know that the debit card used to add money to your Revolut account is your own. We advise all customers to do this on the app to help ensure your Revolut experience is as frictionless as possible. To verify your top-up card, just check your online banking and find a top-up to Revolut which will appear in the form of ‘Revolut1234’. Next, tap the ‘Top-up’ button in the app and tap the box in the middle, and select the card you would like to verify from the next screen. Tap the ‘info’ button to the right of your card and enter your code here. Simple!

What happens if I lose my phone?

Your Revolut card will still function the same without your smartphone. You can make ATM withdrawals and card payments, but you will not be able to check your balance or receive notifications on the go. You can top up your Revolut card via transfer - just make sure you know your reference number. Alternatively, contact the in-app support so we can change the mobile number on the account for you. Download the app on a new device, attempt to log in with your mobile number and then choose the option 'I haven't received a code' to chat to support.

How can I close my Revolut account?

We don’t advise closing your Revolut account as it can take a bit of time to set up a new account with the same mobile number. Revolut doesn’t charge you to keep an account open that is not in use.

However, if you would like to close your account you will first need to withdraw all of the funds in the account. Then contact us via the in-app support so we can delete it for you. You will need to answer some security questions first.

Forgotten your password to access the app?

No problem, it's really easy to reset. On the main page where you enter your 4-digit code to get into the app select ‘Forgot?’. Enter your mobile number, then select 'Reset Password'. You will be asked to enter your last top-up amount to Revolut accurate to the cent/pence (e.g. £200.00/€200.00), or the last 4 digits of a top up card that you’ve added to the account. If you can’t remember just check your bank statement. Then you should be able to change your 4-digit passcode.

    Top up

What currency should I top up my account in?

The rule is that you should top up in the currency that your bank account is held in. For example, if you have a UK bank account make sure you top up in GBP. If you don't your bank will convert the money for you and charge a huge fee!

We currently support top-ups in 26 currencies - EUR, USD, GBP, PLN, CHF, SEK, NOK, DKK, RON, AUD, NZD, CZK, SGD, HKD, ILS, TRY, AED, CAD, HUF, INR, JPY, MAD, MXN, QAR, THB and ZAR. Once you have loaded your account, you can exchange between the currencies in the app; send free money transfers in 26 currencies to banks around the globe; or spend in 120 currencies with a Revolut card.

We'll take care of the conversion for you when you use your Revolut card abroad. For example in you're in Thailand, we'll convert your GBP balance to THB automatically when you spend with your card.

Please note, if you are topping up via a bank transfer outside of the EU your bank may charge you a large international wire transfer fee as such transfer would go via SWIFT.

Can a friend make a transfer to my Revolut account?

Yes, you can receive third party transfers from friends and family directly into your Revolut account in any of these supported currencies:

GBP, EUR, USD, CAD, AUD, CHF, DKK, HKD, HUF, ILS, INR, NOK, NZD, PLN, SEK, SGD, TRY, ZAR.

Your friends can also open their own Revolut account and then top it up via debit or credit card. They can then transfer funds to you for free and instantly via the 'Send' function.

Will I be charged to top up my Revolut account via bank transfer?

Revolut does not charge a fee to top up your account via bank transfer. However, it is important to watch out for third-party fees:

Topping up from a UK bank in GBP is free. *If your transfer is in EUR or CHF and *your bank is using SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) then a transfer to Revolut will cost the same as a domestic transfer. SEPA includes the 28 E.U. member states as well as Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco and San Marino. *If your transfer is in PLN, USD or any other currency then it will likely be sent via SWIFT. This means that your bank (and/or an intermediary bank) could charge you an international transfer fee.

With SWIFT transfers there are a few things to bear in mind:

    1. Your bank is likely to charge a fee to make a SWIFT transfer to Revolut.
    2. When your money is in transit, it may be processed by an intermediary bank. They may also deduct a handling fee.
    3. The amount you receive in your Revolut account therefore may be less money than you sent.
    4. Depending on which fee option (SHA, BEN, OUR, REM) you choose while doing a SWIFT transfer to Revolut, intermediary, originating bank and beneficiary bank (namely Lloyds) can apply a handling fee for that transfer.
    5. As banks charge different amounts and are not always transparent, we cannot provide an accurate amount you would be charged.

If your top up is in a currency other than EUR, USD, GBP, PLN, CHF, SEK, NOK, DKK, RON, AUD, NZD, SGD, HKD, ILS, TRY, AED, CAD, HUF, INR, JPY, MAD, MXN, QAR, THB or ZAR your bank will convert the money using their exchange rate. This is unlikely to be the interbank rate, and you may also incur a currency-conversion fee.

How long will my top up via bank transfer take to reach my Revolut account?

This varies from bank-to-bank and by country.

    1. From a UK account this usually takes 4hrs, and can take up to 1 working day. BACS payments take 3 working days.
    2. International transfers (from Poland, Switzerland and elsewhere) usually take 1-3 working days.
    3. Transfers from Greece typically take up to 4 working days.

If you are topping up your account with USD, PLN, CHF, SEK, NOK, DKK, RON, AUD, NZD, SGD, HKD, ILS, TRY, AED, CAD, HUF, INR, JPY, MAD, MXN, QAR, THB or ZAR please ensure you use your 8-digit customer reference number as the reference/description for your transfer, or we will have to manually allocate your top up. This will delay the top-up reaching you account.

How can I top-up by Apple Pay?

Tap the ‘Top-up’ button and, tap the box in the middle, (it will show card details if you have added a card) and select ‘Apple Pay’ from the next screen. If you haven’t got Apple Pay set up on your device already you'll be prompted to set it up. If you do, you can just choose a card and you’re good to go!

If you have an Apple Watch you can also top-up your account on the go. Open the Revolut App, scroll to the bottom of the balances screen and tap the ‘( )’ button. Select the amount and then double click the side button quickly to confirm the top-up.

Please note, American Express isn't supported as a top-up card.

    Do you accept cash deposits?

Unfortunately we don't accept cash deposits to top-up your Revolut account. They will be returned to the sender with a processing fee deducted.

Are there any limits to topping up my account?

    Annual limits

All Revolut users will need to complete our automated ID check in order to top-up their Revolut account. For some UK users, this will happen automatically the first time you top-up your account with a debit card. Other users will be prompted to complete our manual ID check in order to top-up.

To complete this check, go to the 'More' section of the app, tap ‘Profile’ and then 'Verification & limits'. You will need to submit a photo of your goverment issued photo ID and a live photo of yourself. It takes under two minutes, no matter where you are.

Once you’ve passed your ID check, your top-up limits will be increased to a much higher annual threshold. You can check this limit in the Profile section under ‘Verification & Limits’. You can increase your annual threshold even further by submitting some additional information. It’s pretty simple: just follow the steps in the ‘Verification & Limits’ page in our app.

    Daily limits

For newly added cards, most of our users will have a top-up limit between £1000-£3000 (or currency equivalent) per 24 hours. Some users may find they have a lower daily limit to begin with, however, your daily top-up limits will increase over time. We suggest:

Try and top-up your desired amount. If the amount is over your top-up allowance, you will receive a pop up message notifying you of the daily limit for that card and how much you can top-up today. If you wish to top-up more than your daily limit, you can use another debit or credit card, alternatively top-up via bank transfer. Unfortunately for security reasons we cannot provide the specific details around how your top-up limits are calculated.

    Transfer limits

If you're making a transfer in GBP in or out of your Revolut account there are daily and weekly limits. The daily limit is £75,000 combined, meaning that you cannot transfer more than £75,000 in or out of the account per 24 hours. The weekly limit is £125,000 combined. If you attempt to make a transfer larger than this amount, it will be automatically rejected by our payment processor.

How can I increase my annual top up limits?

How can I increase my annual top up limits? Your annual top-up limit in Revolut is based on your estimated annual income and/or generated wealth. Check below what documents you need to upload depending on the source (please make sure that your name, date and all information on the documents are visible):

    Source of funds: Salary

If your top up was generated from your salary, you’ll need to send us copies of your pay slips from the previous 3 months or P60/tax receipts.

    Source of funds: Savings

In order to increase your limit based on your savings, we need to know how were they generated. Please upload a bank statement showing the current balance of your savings account and relevant documents showing how the savings were generated.

Source of funds: Sale of Property

If you’ve sold a property and used the proceeds to top up your Revolut account, you'll need to send us a copy of the sale agreement for the property; a bank statement showing the proceeds of the sale being credited to your bank account; and a statement showing the funds being transferred to your Revolut account. ( unless the funds are to be deposited directly on the Revolut account)

    Source of funds: Cryptocurrency

How can I top up my Revolut account by card?

You can top-up your Revolut account instantly with a debit or credit card (Mastercard or Visa) on the app. Credit card top-ups will be recognised as a normal card transaction, not a cash advance. Unfortunately some Maestro, pre-paid debit cards and American Express are not supported.

Open the Revolut App and tap 'Top-up', tap the box in the middle, then tap ‘Add new card’ from the next screen. Add your card details including the 16-digit card number, expiry date and CVV code. Make sure you add the correct billing address for your card. If the address doesn’t match, your top-up will fail our security check and it can take up to 5 working days for the money to return to your available balance in your bank account. Next, enter the amount you would like to top-up, and select the tick in the right corner which should take you to your bank's security page. After that - your top-up will appear instantly in your wallet!

We advise using your own card to top-up your Revolut account. If someone else would like to add money to your Revolut account, they can download the Revolut app and use the 'Send' function to transfer money to your account instantly. Find out how to send money via Revolut here.

How can I enable auto top-up?

We’ve added the option to automatically top-up your Revolut account when your balance is running low, so you don’t ever have to worry about it. We'd recommend using this feature if you're traveling.

Tap the ‘Top-up’ button to select your card after tapping the box in the middle of the screen. Tap the ‘info’ button to the right of your card information and select ‘Set up auto top-up’ if it’s enabled for your card.

Next, you’ll need to choose your conditions for auto top-up. You can automatically top-up your account with £100, £200 or £500 when your Revolut balance falls below either £50, £100 or £200.

The daily auto top-up limit is £500; if you need to add more money to your account you can top-up manually by card in the App.

New Revolut users won’t be able to enable auto top-up straight away. We’ll complete regular checks of your risk profile, and let you know with a pop-up in the App when you can use this feature.

What card can I use to top up?

You can top-up your Revolut account with a debit or credit card. We currently support Mastercard or Visa Credit cards to top-up. Please note, credit card top-ups will be recognised as a normal card transaction, not a cash advance.

Unfortunately, some Maestro, pre-paid debit cards and American Express are not supported.

Will I be charged to top up by card?

Topping up with an EEA issued debit card or credit card is completely free.

Please note that if you top up with a card that has not been issued within the EEA (e.g. a US based card) or you top up with a commercial card then we may charge a small fee just to cover our costs.

In these cases, it might be cheaper for you to top up via bank transfer.

It’s still significantly cheaper to use your Revolut card abroad than a typical UK credit card.

How can I top up my Revolut account via bank transfer?

You can make a transfer to Revolut via online/mobile banking or in branch.

Tap the 'Top up' button, and select the currency you would like to top-up your Revolut account. The rule is that you should top-up in the currency that your bank account is held in.

Next click on the box in the middle of the screen (it will show card details if you have added a card), and select 'Bank transfer' from the next screen. You will be directed to a page which shows the account details you need to make a transfer to.

    Topping up in GBP:

If you are making a transfer from a bank account in the UK, select 'Local' to find the details for your own current account - with a unique account number and sort-code. Alternatively, select 'IBAN' to find our GBP IBAN and SWIFT code. Direct debits are not supported yet.

    Topping up in EUR:

If you are making a transfer from a European bank account, please use your personalised IBAN details. Make sure that the funds are sent as a SEPA payment. Any inbound international payments will be rejected by our payment processor and returned with any applicable fees.

    Topping up in USD/ PLN/ CHF/ SEK/ NOK/ DKK/ RON/ AUD/ NZD/ SGD/ HKD/ ILS/ TRY/ AED/ CAD/ HUF/ INR/ JPY/ MAD/ MXN/ QAR/ THB/ ZAR:

Please ensure the reference/description for your transfer is the 8-digit reference number highlighted in pink on this page with no other text. This will ensure that your funds go straight into your account. If you forget to use this reference, please message our in-app support team.

Our accounts support third party payments, and as with all payments, will be subject to our usual fraud checks. This may mean that the funds will take a bit longer to reach your account, but we are working to bring this time down and to streamline this process.

    Exchange

Exchanging money via the Revolut app

You can exchange between USD, GBP, EUR, PLN, CHF, DKK, NOK, SEK, RON, SGD, HKD, AUD, NZD, TRY, ILS, AED, CAD, HUF, INR, JPY, MAD, MXN, QAR, THB, and ZAR in the ‘Exchange’ section of the app. The top half of the page represents the currency you will exchange from, and the bottom half represents the currency you will receive. Select currencies that you would like to exchange from the drop-down list.

Just enter the amount of money you would like to exchange on the top and the amount you will receive will appear in the box below. Click exchange, and that's it - your balance will be updated.

What exchange rate will I get?

Our rates mirror the Spot Interbank exchange rate. The interbank market is the top-level foreign exchange market where banks exchange different currencies. It is a wholesale market through which most currency transactions are channeled and, as such, offers the best possible exchange rate available. This spot interbank exchange rate typically beats that of banks and other consumer foreign exchange services by 3-5%.

For a few illiquid currencies, we provide the best rate we possibly can. For THB and RUB, we apply a small 1.5% markup on the exchange rate. For UAH we apply a 1% markup.

During weekend (Friday 23:59 - Sunday 23:59), we apply a small mark up on the spot rate as the Forex markets are closed. We take the rate from Friday 23:59 and apply a 0.5% mark up on major currencies and 1.0% on other currencies to protect the company from potential losses due to a large fluctuation in the rate. For illiquid currencies like Russian Ruble and Thai Baht, there is 1.5% a mark up on weekend.

Our rates are provided by Morning Star.

Will I be charged for exchanging currencies?

Cross-currency exchanges are free up to £5,000 or equivalent per calendar month, after which a 0.5% fair usage fee applies. Upgrade to Premium today to enjoy unlimited free currency exchange!

What currencies are supported for holding?

How can I check the exchange rates on the app?

You can check the live exchange rates for our supported currencies by clicking ‘Exchange’ then the drop down arrow at the top.

Click ‘Add New Currency’ and select your first currency (e.g. GBP) and then your second Currency (e.g. CAD) to see the exchange rate you would receive for a GBP-CAD transaction for example.

Use the ‘Converter’ to check exactly how much foreign currency you would receive in exchange for your chosen currency. Check how many Canadian Dollars (CAD) you would receive in exchange for your British Pounds (GBP) for example by adding GBP and CAD as a currency then entering an amount. The amount of CAD you would receive should appear below instantly. Add as many currencies for comparison as you like, and delete a currency by swiping left and selecting ‘Delete’.

Our business is predicated on offering the best exchange rates available, which are offered by the spot interbank exchange rate.

    Security

    Is my money safe?

Client funds are stored under a segregated account at Lloyds. As an FCA authorised institution, your funds are safeguarded as per FCA requirements, the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 and the Payment Services Regulations 2017. In the event of an insolvency, you will be able to claim your funds from this segregated account and your claim will be paid above all other creditors.

All your card transactions are processed by the Mastercard or Visa network and are protected by Mastercard or Visa rules.

Who are Paysafe Financial Services Limited?

Your Revolut prepaid card may be issued by Paysafe Financial Services Limited (Paysafe), pursuant to a license by MasterCard International. All prepaid cards issued by Paysafe will, with effect from 1 January 2018, migrate to being issued directly from Revolut. This means that your current cardholder terms with Paysafe will end on 1 January 2018. You can move across earlier by agreeing to our cardholder terms by clicking accept in our app. Our cardholder terms can be found here.

    Is Revolut FCA approved?

Revolut is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 for the issuing of electronic money and payment instruments with the reference number 900562.

    Is my private information safe?

Yes, our policies and procedures are designed to protect both your confidentiality and the security of your information, including your non-public personal information. We store and process your personal information using third party servers located in secure data centers, that are protected by firewalls and have restricted access in compliance with applicable regulations. All data passed between Revolut mobile apps, our servers and third parties is 2048-bit SSL encrypted.

My account is blocked, what should I do?

If your account is blocked, there are two key things you should do:

    1. Verify your identity:

If you open the app you should be given the option to ‘Verify your identity’. You will be prompted to take a photo of your international drivers licence/passport and a photo of yourself. Your account should be verified within 15 minutes. Please go to the Profile section of our support for more information on how to do this.

    1. Confirm your top up card:

You should also be given the option to ‘Verify your card’. To do this, you just need to look at your online banking and find a recent top up to Revolut which looks like Revolut1234. Then, you need to go onto the app and enter the 4-digit code here. That’s it!

How does disabling magstripe payments increase my Revolut cards security?

‘Magstripe’ (Magnetic stripe = the black strip on the back of your card) transactions are unfortunately more susceptible to fraud than other types of card transaction. Disabling magstripe payments in your app when you don’t need this functionality would significantly reduce the risk of fraud on your Revolut card.

    Keep in mind:

Whilst most European countries have implemented ‘Chip & Pin’ ATM technology, other countries across the globe have been slower to adopt it.

If you are in the United States and South East Asia in particular, you should keep in mind that a lot of their ATM’s and merchant terminals still use magstripe technology – so it would be advantageous to leave it enabled.

How does the location based security feature work?

Once you turn this feature on in the app, we will use your phone’s location to determine if your card has been compromised and help prevent fraudulent transactions.

For example, if you and your phone are in Germany and a transaction is attempted in Hong Kong with your card details - we will stop the transaction from going through. The logic behind this is if you’re in Germany, there’s a high chance the person in Hong Kong trying to use your card details isn’t you!

Don’t worry, we don’t block e-commerce payments so you can still use your Revolut card for international online shopping!

    How does Revolut make money?

We earn a nominal fee paid to us by merchants every time you spend on your Revolut Card. Revolut was launched to offer a fair and transparent service. It has been designed to offer the best value and the best user experience.

We can provide an estimate of the potential fees for the following currencies: 35 AUD 20 CAD 50 AED 16-32 EUR (outside of SEPA) 7500 JPY 35 NZD 20-40 USD

    How fast is my transfer?

Transfers to a UK bank account usually take a few hours but it can take up to 1-2 working days. If your UK bank does not use faster payments or you are transferring internationally, it will take 3-5 working days to reach the recipient's account.

What if I don't know the account details?

If you don't know the recipient's bank account details, you can send a payment link via the Revolut app so the recipient can enter their own bank details.

Tap the pink button on the main navigation screen in the app and select 'Send money'. Select the contact you would like to transfer money to and add the amount you would like to send. You can choose one of the 26 currencies we support for transfers.

When you tap next, this will generate a payment link which you can then copy and send to your contact via e-mail, WhatsApp, or so on. You can also choose to automatically SMS them the payment link. The recipient then has 24 hours to collect the money by clicking on the link and entering their account details.

The funds will be reverted back to your Revolut account if not collected within 24 hours. You can cancel the transfer if the recipient has not accepted it by clicking on the transaction in your Revolut wallet and selecting ‘Cancel payment’.

    What are the transfer limits?

If you're making a transfer in GBP, there are daily and weekly limits. The daily limit is £75k combined, meaning that you cannot transfer more than £75k in or out of the account per 24 hours. The weekly limit is £125k combined. If you attempt to make a transfer larger than this amount, it will be automatically rejected by our payment processor.

    Setting up recurring payments

You can set up as many recurring payments as you need and name each one of them differently. To adjust or cancel a Recurring payment, tap on the payment you want to edit and you’ll be able to Adjust, Deactivate, Activate, or Delete it anytime you need. We’ll use the FX rate on the day of the payment. Please note that you cannot lock the FX rate from the time you set up the payment. Trust us, you’re still getting the best rate around!

If you don’t have enough funds to complete a payment, we’ll send you a notification 24 hours before so that you have enough time to top up the account and the payment can go through. This way you never miss a payment!

    No - it's completely free!

Will I be charged to transfer money via Revolut?

Revolut does not charge a fee for cross-currency transfers for up to £5,000 / €6,500 / $6,000 / Fr 6,000 / 20,000 zl (or equivalent) per month. A 0.5% fee will apply to any further cross-currency transactions performed during the same calendar month.

You should also watch out for third party fees. If your transfer is sent in Euros and your bank is using SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area), then a transfer from Revolut is free. SEPA comprises of the 28 E.U. member states as well as Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco and San Marino.

If your bank is located outside of the E.U. or is not in Euros, then your transfer will be sent via SWIFT (Society for Worldwide InterBank Financial Telecommunications) and you may incur international wire transfer fees.

With SWIFT transfers, the beneficiary bank could also charge a fee to receive your transfer. When your money is in transit, it may be processed by an intermediary bank who may also deduct a handling fee. Therefore, the amount you receive in your bank may be less than the amount you sent. As banks are not always transparent about their fees, unfortunately, we cannot provide a conclusive amount that you could be charged.

We can provide an estimate of the potential fees for the following currencies:

    1. 35 AUD
    2. 20 CAD
    3. 50 AED
    4. 16-32 EUR (outside of SEPA)

Can I transfer money to my U.S. bank account?

Generally, you can transfer money to banks in the United States using Revolut. However, if you are currently living in the United States, you cannot make a bank transfer from Revolut to your local bank account due to licensing restrictions. We're working on resolving this!

You can still use Revolut by withdrawing your funds from a cash machine.

What can I do if I transferred money to the wrong account?

Please contact support as soon as possible, in some cases we may be able to cancel your transfer within 24 hours.

If you entered the wrong account details, we will try to liaise with our service provider to locate your transfer. If you've transferred via SWIFT we can request an MT103, a recall or a trace on your behalf.

For local transfers, there is only an option of a recall for transfers in USD. For other currencies, we can only provide an official transfer confirmation and wait for the funds to be returned to us. The best thing to do would be to contact your bank.

Please note, all of these actions are on a best endeavour basis and their success is not guaranteed.

Can I set up multiple Recurring payments?

Yes! You can set up as many Recurring payments as you need. You can name each one so that you can tell them apart in the list of payments that you have. Click the 'Payments' section in the app and select 'Recurring payments' to view what you have set up or add new ones.

What happens if I set up a Recurring payment, but I don’t have sufficient funds in my account?

If you don’t have enough funds to complete a payment, we’ll send you a notification 24 hours before so that you have enough time to top up the account and the payment can go through. This way you never miss your payments!

    Can I hold multiple currencies?

Yes, Revolut allows you to hold and exchange between separate USD, GBP, EUR, PLN, CHF, DKK, NOK, SEK, RON, SGD, HKD, AUD, NZD, TRY, ILS AED, CAD, HUF, INR, JPY, MAD, QAR, THB, or ZAR balances. We will be adding loads more currencies soon!

Please note that you can top-up in AED, CAD, HUF, INR, JPY, MAD, QAR, THB, SGD, HKD, AUD, NZD, TRY, ZAR and ILS currencies only via bank transfers. Card top-ups are not supported for the time being.

Can I pay a security deposit with my Revolut card?

When you use your card for a security deposit, an amount will be blocked from your card for up to 10 working days. You won't be able to spend the blocked amount during this time.

We usually suggest paying for the security deposit with your debit/credit card. Then pay the final balance with your Revolut card to avoid any foreign transaction fees. Alternatively, just make sure you account for the security deposit when calculating your holiday budget and topping up!

Why is my account showing a negative balance?

As you might know, Revolut offers prepaid debit cards, which means that your account is debited each time you use your card. In some instances, offline transactions or Revolut fees for services such as Premium and Device Insurance can lead to your balance dropping below zero.

Please remember that due to Revolut’s Terms & Conditions if for any reason (including, but not limited to, any technical errors on our behalf or on behalf of our third-party providers) you have a negative balance in your Revolut Electronic Money Account, you agree to immediately Top-Up the required amount to correct the negative balance, such amounts being due without the need for previous notification.

Please refer to sections [LINK TO: 17.2 and 22.1 of Terms and Conditions] for more details.

Why was I charged twice for my restaurant bill?

Some restaurants, notably in the United States, pre-authorise your Revolut card with the total amount for your bill, for example $40. When you have signed the receipt and decided whether you would like to leave a tip, they finish the transaction by either finalising the sale or adding a tip then finalising the sale.

If you add a tip, a second charge including the tip may appear on your Revolut account - for example $47.50. This will appear in your transaction history as a double charge until the merchant cancels the pre-authorisation. This can take up to 10 working days to be credited back to your available balance.

Can I check my balance at an ATM?

At most ATMs yes. The ATM will display a total of all of your currency balances (GBP, USD, EUR, PLN, DKK, NOK, SEK, RON, SGD, HKD, AUD, NZD, TRY, ILS, AED, CAD, HUF, INR, JPY, MAD, MXN, QAR, THB, ZAR and CHF) in the local currency. For example, if you check your balance at an ATM in Thailand it will show a total of your five balances in Thai Baht!

Are there limits to my Revolut account?

New Revolut users will need to complete our automated ID check to top-up their Revolut account. Once you’ve passed your ID check, your top-up limits will be increased to a much higher annual threshold.

Using Revolut to send, spend, withdraw and exchange in a foreign currency is free for the first £5,000 / €6,000 / $6,000 / Fr6,000 / 20,000zl per month. A 0.5% fee will apply to any further cross-currency transactions performed during the same month.

ATM usage is free for up to £200 (€200/ $200/ Fr 200/ 800zl/ 1,500DKK / 2,000SEK / 2,000NOK / 800RON) per month, after which there will be a 2% fee applied to further ATM withdrawals until the end of the month. For example, if you withdrew £250 in one month, this would only cost you £1.

Card spending is unlimited, meaning there isn't any value limiting the amount you may spend using your Revolut card, with the exception of cards issued by Wirecard, for which the limit amounts to €5,000 for every 24 hour period. This means you will not be able to make payments with your card for a collective value larger than the equivalent of €5,000 in any 24 hour period. This includes an ATM cash withdrawal limit, which amounts to €2,200 or equivalent per 24 hours. All other cards, that is cards not issued by Wirecard, have an ATM withdrawal limit of €5,000 or equivalent per 24 hours. The name of your card's issuer is printed on the back of the card.

Please note, if you joined before 16 March 2017 your billing cycle for all charges goes by Calendar month. If you joined after 16 March 2017, you go by Rolling month. If you joined before 16 March 2017 and upgraded your Revolut account from Standard to Premium, you'll also be on a Rolling month cycle.

What balance will my Revolut card use when I am abroad?

Your Revolut account can hold a balance in GBP, EUR, USD, PLN, CHF, SEK, NOK, DKK, RON, AUD, NZD, SGD, HKD, ILS, TRY, AED, CAD, HUF, INR, JPY, MAD, QAR, THB, and ZAR. The card selects which balance to use in the following order:

*The local currency of the merchant/ATM e.g. if you are in Spain, it will deduct funds from your Euro balance.

*Your base currency - i.e. if you used a UK address to sign-up, your base currency will be GBP.

    *Your largest balance.

You need to have sufficient funds in one single balance in order to make a transaction. If you don’t have enough funds in the balance of the local currency, it will default to your next largest balance and so on.

How can I get a statement for my Revolut account?

This is super easy to do. Go to the 'Account' tab in the app, scroll up on your transactions list and tap the receipt icon in the top-right corner. Choose whether you would like your statement as a PDF or Excel file and set the date range for which you would like a statement. Tap 'Get statement' and you will be able to see your account history on the screen.

If you would like to export your account statement, simply tap the export icon in the top-right of the screen and you can choose to send it to yourself via SMS, email or print it directly from your phone.

What is not supported with Revolut?

There are some merchants that are not supported with your Revolut card. At the moment, this includes:

    1. Financial securities brokers and dealers
    2. Foreign exchange bureaus (including TravelEx ATMs)
    3. Unmanned petrol stations (although you can still pay inside!)

Some merchants we allow up to a cumulative limit, after which you will need to verify your ID and confirm your top up cards to continue using them:

    1. Payment services ($200 or equivalent)
    2. Prepaid cards ($200 or equivalent)
    3. Dating & Escort services ($200 or equivalent)
    4. Betting/gambling services ($120 or equivalent)
    5. Jewellery & Art dealers

Merchants are categorized by their merchant category code (MCC), and this is how we recognize what type of merchant they are. A merchant can sometimes wrongfully categorise under an MCC. If you receive a push notification saying 'This merchant isn't supported' when it isn't listed above, it is likely to be because of their MCC.

    What is a pending transaction?

A pending transaction is a payment which has been authorised but is still waiting for the merchant’s confirmation or reversal. Depending on the payment type the merchant has a 7 or 10 day period to either claim or cancel the payment. The funds will be automatically returned to your available balance once the merchant cancels the payment or the 7 or 10 days pass and the merchant does not claim the funds. The longer timeframe (10 days) applies to transactions that involve a deposit or pre-authorisation. For example, things such as hotel reservations, car rentals, TFL, and e-commerce subscriptions.

Why is my card declined at toll booths & automatic petrol pumps?

As your Revolut card is pre-paid, when you pay with it the merchant has to authorise that you have sufficient funds on your card to make the payment.

As some automatic petrol pumps and toll booths do not have online connectivity, you may find that you are unable to use your Revolut card at automatic petrol stations.

    What should I do if I find a transaction I don't recognise?

Block your Revolut card in the ‘Card’ section of the app straight away. There is no fraud protection for your pre-paid card as stated by ‘The UK Cards Association’, therefore any money used in a fraudulent transaction will not be reimbursed. If you would like to challenge a transaction that has been made an account we can raise a chargeback for you to retrieve the funds. However, this does depend on your transaction’s situation and circumstances. By raising a chargeback we would effectively charge the merchant back for the funds.

How can I challenge a card transaction?

If you see a transaction on your Revolut transactions list that you don’t recognise, or you believe should have been refunded, please contact the in-app support so we can investigate for you. Following an internal investigation, we may decide to raise a chargeback on your behalf. This effectively raises a dispute with the merchant on your behalf. Please gather all available supporting evidence to provide to support via the in-app support chat.

    Travel Insurance

What makes Revolut travel insurance different?

Revolut's travel insurance is designed to give you peace of mind on your travels by offering you the best medical and dental cover at the lowest prices.

Our Pay-per-Day insurance is the first of its kind by using geolocation to only cover you for the days you are actually abroad, starting at less than £1 per day. Not only this, we also let you edit the insurance to suit your needs: easily add companions or winter sports coverage, even after you've landed.

If you travel a lot, don't worry - we have a cap to limit your total annual spend.

For those who would rather be insured for multiple trips over the course of one year at one flat rate, you can buy an annual policy with exactly the same coverage, or upgrade to Premium now and receive this annual policy for free.

What if my phone is broken/lost/stolen while on holiday?

Once you are connected to the internet we will continue to cover you until you reconnect to the internet back in your home country - so if the worst happens to your phone, your insurance will remain active until you get in touch with us to cancel the insurance.

See the Terms & Conditions for further details.

What if I forget to take my phone with me?

Unfortunately we cannot cover you if you do not meet our conditions of cover - make sure to take your phone with you!

What if I don't manage to connect to the internet within 24 hours of starting my trip?

Unfortunately we cannot cover you if you do not meet our conditions of cover - make sure to connect to the internet when you land!

What if I disable location services?

If you do this while on a trip we will continue to cover you until you return home and reconnect to the internet with location services enabled. This is to ensure that if you do it accidently or something happens to your phone, you continue to be covered.

If you do this before you leave on a trip, the cover will not work until you turn location services back on again.

See the Terms & Conditions for further details.

What if I have insufficient funds in my account while on a trip?

Your Pay-per-Day cover will be suspended until you top up (including if you are already on a trip).

Why are there different prices for different regions?

Our Pay-per-Day insurance uses your location to work out where you are in the world, and charge you accordingly. So if you chose Pay-per-Day insurance and spend two days in Europe you will be charged a certain amount for these two days. If you then catch a flight to New York, the rate will change to reflect your new location.

The price you will be charged for each location are made clear in the app before you buy the policy.

The exact cost of the insurance is quoted when you sign up to it - it will depend upon, among other things, whom you are taking with you and Insurance Premium Tax in your country of residence. Different countries have different rates so this means your quotes may be different from your friend's.

Upgrade to Premium now and get your travel insured for free!

    What is Pay-per-Day?

Pay-per-Day insurance uses your phone's location to work out when you're abroad and where you're in the world, and charge you accordingly for those specific days and regions.

To do this you need to turn on location services so we can know when you go abroad and where you travel. You will be notified when you are covered.

    Cryptocurrency

    What is cryptocurrency exposure?

This is the risk associated with holding a cryptocurrency. Revolut holds cryptocurrencies on behalf of those wishing to gain exposure, however, the volatility of cryptocurrency means that the price fluctuations may result in a gain or loss in value.

    Are cryptocurrencies regulated?

Cryptocurrency is not a regulated product in the UK. Your funds in cryptocurrencies will not be safeguarded (as is the case for fiat currency transactions pursuant to our obligations under the UK Electronic Money Regulations 2011). Any cryptocurrency we hold for you is not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

What is a ‘hard fork’ and how may we handle it?

A hard fork is when a single cryptocurrency splits in two. It occurs when a cryptocurrency’s existing code is changed, resulting in both an old and new version.

A hard fork occurs when the developers of a cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin introduce a new version of the underlying software to the network which is not backwards compatible. In this instance there will be two blockchains (ledgers) running in parallel, which will result in a new cryptocurrency being introduced. This occurred when Bitcoin Cash was introduced.

Due to the uncertainty of future events, Revolut will decide on a case-by-case basis how to approach and handle any potential future hard forks. There is always extreme uncertainty around such events, and therefore there are no guarantees that we will or will not support the introduction of new cryptocurrencies as a result of hard forks.

We will communicate with you ahead of time as to whether we plan to accommodate the introduction of any new cryptocurrencies.

How to unlock cryptocurrency offering in the app?

Just go to the “More” section of the app, tap “Cryptocurrencies” and then either unlock or activate by choosing between the options “Go Premium” or “Invite Friends”.

    Who can use cryptocurrency offering?

Any EEA resident who has successfully activated the cryptocurrency offering.

How do I “unlock” and “activate” the cryptocurrency offering early if I am a Standard user?

Due to the exceptional demand for our cryptocurrency product, we are rolling this feature out in batches, starting with our Premium customers. Standard customers can unlock this feature by tapping on the cryptocurrencies button in the more tab of the app. You’ll then receive a push notification confirming your place in the queue. From this point, cryptocurrencies will be unlocked for you in a few weeks time and we’ll send you a push notification letting you know when this feature has been unlocked for you.

As a Standard user in the queue, there are two options to unlock cryptocurrency early:

    1. Invite 3 of your friends to use Revolut and make sure they sign-up; or
    2. Upgrade and become a Premium user!

You cannot start using our cryptocurrency offering until all 3 of your friends have signed-up to Revolut!

Once you have “unlocked” the cryptocurrency offering, you must activate it by carefully reading our risk warnings and agreeing to our terms of use.

How do I gain interest in cryptocurrency and enable a Revolut cryptocurrency account?

Once you have unlocked and activated our cryptocurrency offering you can use any fiat currency that we support to gain cryptocurrency exposure via the “Exchange” screen within the Revolut app. Buying and selling your cryptocurrency exposure works the same way as any other fiat currency that we support!

To add your cryptocurrency account, go to the “Accounts” section on the home screen, tap on “Add account” and simply select one of the three cryptocurrency accounts that you would like to gain exposure to.

I have exchanged my fiat currency for cryptocurrency exposure, now what?

Once you have used your fiat currency to gain your cryptocurrency exposure, we will, on your behalf, seek to place your order via our cryptocurrency exchange.

If successful, your exposure will be stored in a “pooled” virtual currency account. This is a repository of virtual currency private keys. We maintain our own internal ledger, which records your exposure that is reflected in the customer’s cryptocurrency account in your Revolut app.

How do I transfer my cryptocurrency interest to another wallet?

You can only transfer your cryptocurrency exposure to other users within the Revolut app. Please see this question for more information.

How do I send cryptocurrency exposure to my friend on Revolut?

Next, click on your friend, enter in the amount you would like to send and choose cryptocurrency from the drop down list. Then tap ‘Send’ and if your friend has unlocked and activated the cryptocurrency offering, the crypto exposure will appear instantly in their Revolut account! If they have not unlocked and activated the crypto offering, they will receive a message prompting them to do so - you will not be able to send crypto exposure to a friend with a locked and inactive crypto feature.

Litecoin (LTC) - is an alternative cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin; it is an open source, peer-to-peer, and fully decentralised global payment network. Litecoin exists as a software ‘blockchain’ where participating nodes process the transaction and miners provide security and verification for every transaction.

    Are cryptocurrencies regulated?

Cryptocurrency is not a regulated product in the UK. Funds received by us in relation to cryptocurrency transactions will not be safeguarded (as is the case for fiat currency transactions pursuant to our obligations under the UK Electronic Money Regulations 2011). Any cryptocurrency we hold for you is not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

How much does it cost to gain cryptocurrency exposure?

We provide you with the opportunity to gain exposure to cryptocurrencies at the best available rate.

There are no additional fees for using our service, and you can enjoy all the benefits of the Revolut platform. Our rate is derived from the cryptocurrency exchange that we have partnered with - which at this time is Bitstamp - plus a 1.5% markup, to account for volatility.

Am I eligible for cryptocurrency offering?

Any EEA or Swiss resident who's also on our Premium plan can 'activate' cryptocurrency. As a Standard user, you can 'unlock' cryptocurrency by: 1. Inviting 3 friends to Revolut and ensuring they sign up; or 2. Going Premium and enjoying all other benefits!

You cannot use our cryptocurrency offering until all 3 of your friends have signed up to Revolut!

Once you have 'unlocked' the cryptocurrency offering, you must activate it by carefully reading our risk warnings and agreeing to our terms of use.

    Converting from and to cryptocurrencies

Once you have unlocked and activated our cryptocurrency offering, you can use any fiat currency that we support to gain cryptocurrency exposure or exchange this exposure back for any fiat currency via the 'Exchange' section within the Revolut app. Buying and selling your cryptocurrency exposure works the same way as any other fiat currency that we support!

To add your cryptocurrency account, go to the 'Accounts' section, tap on 'Add account', and simply select any of the three cryptocurrency accounts that you would like to gain exposure to.

How fast can I convert from and to cryptocurrencies?

With Revolut you can instantly convert your cryptocurrency exposure from and to fiat. The transaction will first go into a pending state within the app, and then we will attempt to fulfil the exchange - the price is locked in at this point. Once confirmed within our platform, your transaction will be updated and complete.

If in the unlikely event we are unable to confirm the exchange, the transaction will be reverted and all funds returned.

I have exchanged my fiat currency for cryptocurrency exposure, now what?

Once you have used your fiat currency to gain your cryptocurrency exposure, we will, on your behalf, seek to place your order via our cryptocurrency exchange. If successful, your exposure will be stored in a 'pooled' virtual currency account. This is a repository of virtual currency private keys. We maintain our own internal ledger, which records your exposure that is reflected in the customer’s cryptocurrency account in your Revolut app.

    Which exchange does Revolut use?

We work with Bitstamp - an established, secure, and trusted exchange licenced and regulated in Luxembourg.

How does Revolut calculate the price?

We stream the prices from the Bitstamp exchange, and calculate a Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) with a mark-up of 1.5% to account for trading volatility. The price you see in the app is locked in at the time of the exchange.
