Every day, more women decide to pursue a career in technology. As companies prioritise gender equality and inclusion, jobs that were once male-dominated are changing to include women in significant roles.

To celebrate Women's History Month, we're delving into the world of female engineers, and their journey in the tech industry. We sat down with Andreea-Ecaterina Tiron, Backend Engineer, to discuss her career, and her insights on women's contributions to the tech industry.

About Andreea and her experience as an engineer:

Could you share something about yourself?

I come from a small town in Northeast Romania, which is where I got into computing. I became interested in all topics related to technology and engineering from a very young age. That's why I started my professional training as an engineer, studying Computer Science at Babeș-Bolyai University in the city of Cluj.

In addition to my passion for technology, I love travel and swimming — both are hobbies that fit nicely around my work.

What role do you think Revolut plays in the fintech industry?

I can condense it into three things:

  1. Pathbreaker
  2. Pioneer
  3. Closer to customers' needs

What does it mean to be a female engineer at Revolut?

The main thing is added value. In addition to creativity, perseverance, and harmonious collaboration with all colleagues, female engineers bring a fresh perspective to a male-dominated world.

Women in Fintech:

How have women's roles in the fintech industry changed during your career?

The technology industry, and many other sectors, are trusting women's power and capability more and more. There's been a clear increase in the representation of women in key positions within technology and engineering.

The fact that women are more than capable of making our mark and taking on any role has allowed the industry to believe in inclusion. In addition, the tireless effort of companies like Revolut to create equal opportunities is key to building a gender-equal industry.

What do you consider to be the specific challenges and opportunities for women in the tech field, particularly in fintech?

The same as for men. And depending on each one's talent, work, and skills. In the end, you truly need to have a passion for what you do.

Do you believe that the increased inclusion of women in tech roles has impacted innovation within the fintech industry?

Yes, there have been changes, and I believe they're positive. These changes depend on companies’ ability to provide a creative environment. Diversity in the workplace, including gender diversity, brings a variety of perspectives, experiences, and ideas.

Vision for the Future:

How do you envision the future for women in technology and, more specifically, in the fintech industry?

In terms of representation and presence, I'm sure it'll increase and grow even more. But I also envision a future with more equal opportunities, more innovative solutions, and fewer differences between men and women.

What advice would you give to young women aspiring to pursue a career in technology or fintech?

To pursue their dreams with great determination, to believe in themselves, and in their abilities and skills. With faith, they'll be able to develop a successful career and overcome every difficulty that arises.

The future poses a challenge for both the industry and Revolut. We'll work tirelessly to keep creating opportunities and promoting equality. We'll also work on building an ecosystem where we don't just talk about inclusion, but where it becomes a reality.

Revolut is committed to empowering women in all areas, especially in technology-related roles. Providing a fair and inclusive environment for everyone is one of our top priorities, and we actively pursue to address gender disparity daily. By 2025, the company strives to increase the number of women in leadership positions by 30%.
