Delivering results your way: Maleha Khan on flexibility at Revolut

Flexibility isn’t just a perk: it’s part of how we deliver WOW at Revolut. We empower teams to work when and where they’re most effective, balancing autonomy with accountability. For Maleha Khan, who leads a fast-scaling Acquiring team, flexibility has shaped both her career growth and her personal journey. Here’s her story.

What does workplace flexibility give you the freedom to do?

When I joined, the Acquiring department was small and the Sales team had only just formed. Very soon, we were onboarding our first sales merchants while simultaneously defining the processes needed to enable sales. Working flexibly during that time was crucial — it meant we could monitor product and process performance in real time, understand what was needed to scale quickly, and ensure customer retention.

Many of the Risk team were based in Australia and Sales Operations in the US. Flexible working meant we weren’t limited by time zones, which allowed us to launch and improve processes much faster.

Having the ability to work whenever and from wherever, and to hire across geographies, is incredibly empowering. Over the last 3+ years at Revolut, flexibility has enabled me to scale my team from fewer than 5 people to more than 60 across Europe.

And it’s not just about work. I’ve been able to grow a family alongside growing a team. I became a mother while still leading the department — working into my ninth month of pregnancy, easing back after maternity leave by joining meetings remotely to stay close to developments, and balancing full-time work with nursery drop-offs and pick-ups thanks to clear calendar blocks.

How does flexible working impact your productivity?

Merchants don’t stop accepting payments at 6pm. When an e-commerce merchant launches a Thursday evening flash sale or an in-person merchant runs a weekend festival, they still need support. Having the tools and visibility to respond from anywhere means I can adapt my focus and my time to when it’s most needed.

Most of my core hours are spent working directly with my teams — tracking progress against KPIs, diving into sales processes with merchants, positioning our product competitively, and coordinating with other functions to minimise friction. At the same time, flexibility gives me the choice to block focus time for deep work or pick up projects in the evening, when there are fewer distractions.

How do you stay connected with your team while working remotely?

Slack is our constant conversation, and I encourage my team never to wait for a meeting to share updates. We align priorities in daily stand-ups, review progress weekly, and collaborate live on Jira and Google Docs across pricing, risk, operations, and integrations.

Our team is spread across Spain, Ireland, France, Poland, and the UK — but it doesn’t feel remote. We structure our weeks just as if we were in the same office, and we make a point of celebrating wins with a dedicated channel for closed deals.

What’s one thing you’ve gained from flexible working that you didn’t expect?

For me, it meant being able to ease back into work the afternoon after minor surgery following a miscarriage, from the comfort of my own home. It has meant being able to stay on top of Slack and meetings during unexpected nursery closures or sickness, without derailing everything.

With a young family, flexible working gives you the ability not to choose between being a parent and being highly successful at work.

How does Revolut balance autonomy and accountability?

We can deliver high performance remotely because our systems provide clear visibility. At Revolut, it’s not about presenteeism, it’s about results.

Teams are empowered to structure their days in the way that works for them and their market. But because performance data is transparent, it’s also clear when something isn’t working, and we can quickly step in to adjust.

What advice would you give to someone new to flexible working?

Be structured and make your working pattern visible to others. Block out your calendar clearly — whether for childcare, travel, or focus time — so colleagues know when you’re available.

If you’re juggling, be disciplined about priorities. Focus on what has the most impact and make sure dependencies are delivered, so your flexibility never slows anyone else down.

If you had to describe Revolut’s approach to flexibility in one line, what would it be?

Get it done, and you can work how you want.

Of course, there are key meetings and escalations that must take priority, but fundamentally what matters is delivering results.
